Even though Cha-Cha-Chia seeds are most famous for growing hair on their self-named pets, their lesser known qualities are probably more impressive. Chia seeds are one of the most unique and nutrient-packed foods on the market today. Originally grown in Central and South America, these black or white seeds have been a staple in the natives’ diet for centuries. It was our belief in the health benefits of chia seeds that caused us to make them one of the core ingredients in our Trim Fuel Bars.

Let’s take a look at the specific benefits of chia seeds. Learn how these superfoods can enhance your overall health.

1. Chia Seeds are Jam Packed with Nutrients

Chia seeds are packed with essential vitamins and minerals. Chia seeds contain:

• 5 times more calcium than milk
• 2 times more potassium than bananas
• 3 times more iron than spinach
• 3 times more antioxidants than blueberries

Additionally, they are great sources of the following nutrients:

• Chia seeds are the richest plant-based source of essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6.
• In just two tablespoons, chia seeds provide 10 grams – or 1/3 the daily recommended intake – of fiber.
• Two tablespoons of chia seeds have 18% of the daily recommended intake of calcium, 35% phosphorus, 24% magnesium, and 50% manganese.

2. They are Easy to Incorporate into Your Diet

Chia seeds are basically tasteless; therefore, you can easily incorporate them into your diet. Eat them raw, create a gel, or substitute them when baking. Add chia seeds to your everyday recipes and double the nutritional value of a food.

Use chia seeds instead of eggs to make your next recipe a low-cholesterol sensation. Simply place one tablespoon of chia seeds in three tablespoons of water. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes.

Because of all the amazing antioxidants, chia seeds have an incredible shelf life; they can last for two years without refrigeration!

3. Chia Seeds Improve Heart Heath

These little superfoods are packed with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These essential fatty acids help support the immune, cardiovascular, nervous, and reproductive systems.

A study at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto showed participants who regularly ate chia seeds had significantly lower blood pressure. Also, their blood was thinner and less prone to clotting. This incredible transformation took place just three months after adding chia to their diet.

4. Diabetics and Gluten-Free Patients Love Chia

Chia seeds are gluten free. Therefore, they can greatly enhance the limited diet of gluten-free patients and fill in nutritional gaps.

Additionally, chia seeds help stabilize blood sugar levels. By slowing down the rate at which complex carbohydrates are digested and assimilated into the body, the soluble fiber helps to stabilize glucose levels. They also reduce insulin resistance and decrease abnormally high levels of insulin.

5. Athletes love the Superfood

The word chia comes from the Mayan word for “strength,” and it is said a single tablespoon of chia seeds can sustain a person for 24 hours. It’s no surprise modern day athletes love the seeds.

Chia seeds absorb 9 times their volume in water. This means an athlete will receive an abundance of energy, prolonged hydration and enhanced retention of electrolytes. Many people say chia seeds help them perform at optimal levels for longer periods of time.

6. Chia Seeds Reduce Inflammation

Many arthritis patients turn to chia seeds for a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory tool. The high concentration of omega-3 fatty acids helps lubricate the joints, keeping them supple.

7. Weight Loss and Weight Management are Easier with Chia Seeds

Check out all the ways chia seeds help dieters shed unwanted pounds and stay on their weight loss journey:

• Chia seeds help boost your metabolism.
• They promote the development of lean muscle mass.
• The superfood can easily be added to favorite dishes, making them more filling and nutrient rich without adding to the calorie count.
• Chia seeds make you feel full longer. This helps reduce food cravings between meals.

8. They Are Better Than Expensive Anti-Aging Creams

Chia seeds are jam packed with antioxidants. They have more than nearly any other food – including blueberries. These antioxidants are a powerful tool against the free radicles that threaten the youthful and radiant appearance of our skin.

9. Chia Seeds Give Your Brain a Boost

Fatty acids make our cell membranes more flexible and efficient. This means that nutrients are more readily available and nerve transmissions happen more efficiently. Therefore, chia seeds – and the fatty acids they contain – help improve brain function, memory and concentration.

With all these amazing health benefits, it is no wonder chia seeds are growing in popularity. Have you tried them yet? What was your impression of the superfood? If you haven’t given chia seeds a try yet, what are you waiting for?! The easiest (and most delicious way) to enjoy chia seeds is our new Trim Fuel Bars. Click here to try them.

Are you terrified of needles? Does the thought of poking yourself cause a panic attack? Do you break into a cold sweat at the mere mention of an injection? You are not alone.

According to a recent study in Australia (not a country known for wussies), 22% of participants claimed a fear of needles. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual acknowledges Trypanophobia (fear of needles) as a specific phobia and affects about 10% of Americans.

The health benefits of vitamin b12 injections as well as our other nutrient injections are undeniable, but what if your fear of needles makes it seem impossible to receive or self administer a vitamin injection? While there is no way to take the fear away completely, you can learn to make the experience more manageable. Here are some tips on how to make the process less painful.

Educate Yourself

Before it’s time to get poked, educate yourself on the process. Learn about why you need to have this particular injection. Research the health benefits associate with this procedure. Focus on the things you’ll gain from the shot.

The Red Cross has an unusual suggestion for people who have a fear of needles. They say you should actually sign up to donate blood as often as possible. This will help you learn to appreciate the importance of needles. Find out how your blood donation can help others. Acknowledge that needles help save lives.

Get Comfortable

When injection time comes, try to get as comfortable as possible. If you are in the doctor’s office, ask the medical professional to give you a few minutes to get situated. Find a comfortable chair. Maybe remove your shoes. Take off any excess clothing that will make you feel constrained or overheated.

If you are performing a self-injection at home, find your favorite spot in the house. Go into a relaxing room and find a comfortable place to sit.

Engage in Relaxation Techniques

If you tense up and tighten your muscles, you’ll make the shot hurt even more. The dense muscle will be even harder to penetrate.

Instead, try some relaxation techniques. Take some deep breaths. Turn on some soothing music. Think of happy thoughts.

Find a Distraction

Find something to concentrate on – other than the needle. Ask a loved one to engage you in conversation. Ask questions and listen to the answers. Turn on the radio and sing along to your favorite song. Find something amusing and entertaining to watch on the TV.

Give Yourself a Reward

Offering yourself a reward might make the process easier (we won’t say more enjoyable!). Think of a little treat that would make you happy – an ice cream cone, a new app for your iPhone. Knowing you’ll get something positive out of the deal might make each injection less dreadful.

The next time you need to have an injection, focus on all the good that little needle will do. Take the time to mentally prepare yourself for the ordeal and give yourself a well-deserved treat afterwards.

Avoid Winter Weight Gain

Winter is a tough season. The weather can be bone chilling, and the days are short and dark. Going outside is not an enjoyable experience. It’s easy to stay indoors, vegging out in front of the TV while surrounded by your favorite comfort foods. As your winter hibernation progresses, the numbers on the scale slowly starts to creep up. Find out how you can keep off those pesky winter pounds.

Exercise

The first weapon in your arsenal is exercise. We need to keep our metabolisms fired up and working at peak capacity. Exercise is a great way to make this happen.

Many people find they lack the motivation to go to the gym after work. The cold, dark night is more conducive to a speedy trip home – not extra exposure to the harsh elements. Plan for these feelings; try to schedule your workout during the day. Can you slip out during your lunch break?

When you do hit the gym, make sure that your workouts are balanced between strength training and cardio.

Go Outside

Sunlight is quite important – especially in the winter months when the sun tends to retreat earlier and is not as powerful. Grab your gloves, hat and scarf to brave the cold. The sunlight will rejuvenate your mind and will lighten your mood. A better mood means you will feel less of a need to delve into your comfort foods. If you are at work, try zipping out for a bit during your lunch hour.

Sports

Find a winter sport that suits you. Skiing, skating and sledding are great ways for you to keep in shape, enjoy the outdoors, get some sun, and burn off some calories. If you are really not an outdoorsy type of person, go to your local fitness centre and see what they have to offer. There are a lot of indoor winter sports leagues you can join such as volleyball, hockey, dodge ball and basketball.

Food

Hearty winter foods often lend themselves well to over-eating splurges. However, you should never eat until you hit the bursting point. For example, you don’t need to tackle the entire pot of stew or attack a honey-baked ham once a week.

Find foods that are low in calories and low in fat. Stock up on fresh vegetables and fruits when you can find them – these make great healthy snacks.

Winter time usually involves a lot of socializing and get-togethers where junk food abounds. Don’t ban yourself from all cookies, candies, chocolates and chips. If you do, you’re likely to eventually succumb to your cravings and over-eat. When you do treat yourself, make sure you eat in moderation.

Alcohol

Besides junk food, alcohol is usually pretty bountiful during the winter months – especially during the holidays. Alcoholic beverages are often chalk full of sugar and are high in calories. Again, moderation is the key.

Plan for a Healthy Winter

Some studies have shown that our bodies tend to store fat in the winter to combat against the cold and to boost our immune system. Don’t look at a slight weight gain as a total failure, but rather as a natural process for our bodies. However, hibernating on the couch while living off potato chips is not natural – nor is it a good idea.

What steps are you going to take to stave off the winter weight gain? Do you have any tips or ideas that you would like to share?

http://trimnutr.nextmp.net/blog/?p=12

Sucralose is a popular food sweetener made from sugar, but is 600 times sweeter. Sucralose has zero calories and is stable in many different foods. Over the last several years I have had patients and friends ask me my opinion about Sucralose (Splenda). The strange thing is that even after I offer my supportive opinion some still seem uncertain. There are few that aggressively provide me with their professional overview of the dangers of Sucralose. However, there is one problem, none of them qualify as an expert in the field of nutrition, so I asked them to present me with some legitimate data supporting the risks or hazards of Sucralose –I still have not received any to date. As a matter of fact, I have discussed this topic with several respected nutritional experts and they agree that that Sucralose is a safe and effective sugar alternative.

Here are a few important statements about Sucralose:

"In determining the safety of Sucralose, FDA reviewed data from more than 110 studies in humans and animals. Many of the studies were designed to identify possible toxic effects including carcinogenic, reproductive and neurological effects. No such effects were found, and FDA's approval is based on the finding that Sucralose is safe for human consumption."
- FDA Talk Paper T98-16.

"There is adequate evidence, [for Sucralose], that there are no concerns about mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, development or reproductive toxicity."
- Opinion of the Scientific Committee on Food of the European Commission on Sucralose, September 7, 2000

"The low-calorie sweeteners in the United States all underwent extensive testing before they were approved. Results showed that low-calorie sweeteners are safe for everyone, including children and pregnant women. Sucralose is the newest low-calorie sweetener on the market. Sucralose is not affected by heat and retains its sweetness in hot beverages, baked goods, and processed foods."
- American Diabetes Association

"Sucralose (Splenda®) was approved by the FDA as a tabletop sweetener in 1998, followed by approval as a general purpose sweetener in 1999. Before approving sucralose, the FDA viewed more than 100 safety studies that were conducted, including studies to assess cancer risk. The results of these studies showed no evidence that these sweeteners cause cancer or pose any other threat to human health."
-National Cancer Institute

"If you drink coffee or other drinks with caffeine, do not have more than one or two cups each day. It is okay to use artificial sweeteners such as Sucralose (brand name: Splenda) while you are pregnant." Am Fam Physician. 2005 Apr 1;71(7):1321-1322.

Our Research and Development Team only uses sugar substitutes in certain product development. I am confident in our research and will continue to support Sucralose as a safe and healthy alternative to refined sugar.

What are Lipotropic Injections?

http://www.trimnutrition.com/blog/hello-world

http://www.trimnutrition.com/blog/hello-world#respond

http://trimnutr.nextmp.net/wp/?p=1

Lipotropic compounds are those which help catalyze the break down of fat during metabolism in the body. Methionine, Choline, Inositol and Betaine are examples of lipotropics. The primary function of lipotropics in the body is to prevent the build up of excess fat in the liver. Lipotropics increase the liver's production of lecithin. Lecithin breaks up cholesterol and moves it through the bloodstream without clogging the arteries. Methionine and Choline are also responsible for detoxifying the metabolic waste generated by the breakdown of proteins in the body.

Although there is no research that supports that lipotropics can increase weight loss these supplements are often used to boost metabolism and aid in weight loss programs. The amino acids that are considered lipotropic are also important for other reactions in the body and therefore can still be a healthy supplement regardless of weight loss. Administering these lipotropics through injections like B12 injections and HCG Injections, rather than oral forms have some definitive benefits.

Better Absorption/Bioavailability
Oral supplements must first be broken down in the digestive tract and absorbed by the body before the active ingredients can begin to exert their effects. In addition, low quality nutrients and cheap fillers can decrease the bioavailability of supplements, greatly reducing intestinal absorption, resulting in unpredictable levels of the active ingredients reaching the bloodstream.

Injections, however, provide direct delivery of nutrients into the body’s tissues, ensuring 100% absorption of the active ingredients. When administering Trim nutrient injections, you can be assured that your patients are receiving the exact dosage of the nutrients you have prescribed which are immediately available for utilization by the body.

Rapid Onset of Action
Oral supplements must first undergo digestion, absorption and metabolism before any nutrients are released into the bloodstream. This process can take several hours before the active ingredients start to become available to target tissues.

Unlike the oral route, administration of nutrients using injections is the most rapid method of dietary supplementation. Following the injection of vitamin supplements, the body can start to utilize the active ingredients immediately in order to correct dietary deficiencies.

Less Frequent Dosing
Because of low bioavailability and extensive metabolism, oral supplements must be dosed frequently to be effective. Depending on the brand, some supplements require the patient to take several pills per day.

Nutritional injections, on the other hand, are completely absorbed and avoid extensive metabolism, providing higher concentrations of nutrients available to target tissues. In addition, injections create a depot effect in which the active ingredients are released progressively over time in a steady-state manner. Therefore, Injections require less frequent dosing than oral supplements.

The Best Value
In summary, unlike oral dietary supplements, nutritional injections contain the highest quality ingredients at the correct potencies without fillers or contaminants. Following administration, the active ingredients are completely absorbed by the body and do not undergo extensive metabolism in the gastrointestinal system. The nutrients are immediately available for utilization to correct nutritional deficiencies. Because of the depot effect and the fact that more of the nutrients reach target tissues, nutrient Injections require less frequent dosing than oral supplements. For these reasons, injections offer the best value.
